Ireland Trip Day 7: Killarney Ring of Kerry (Draft)
Day 7: Killarney- Ring of Kerry
We woke up around 730 and got dressed and hit the road. We wanted to get an early start to beat any possible crowds but we got on the road and realized that we didn’t have to worry about crowds because it was pouring rain. We stopped at Torc Waterfall and had it all to ourselves. Even though it was rainy it was fun. We then stopped at Ladies View then drove on through Molls Gap. We continued around Rong of Kerry until we reach Skelligs Ring and took that around. We were going to stop by the Cliffs of Kerry but they were closed. We continued on to Portmagee and crossed the bridge to Valentina Island and drove around. We then found Fogher Cliffs and walked around to see them. It was very windy. Once we had our fill of wind, we made our way back to Ring of Kerry to look for food in one of the towns along the way. We saw a sign for Red Fox Inn which was rated well and had good food pictures so we stopped in. I don’t think they expected many people as the only food they had was a tomato, onion, ham & cheese sandwich and mushroom soup. We were famished so we just got the toasted sandwiches and a glass of water. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t a meal to rave about. It did the trick in giving me more food than a Granola bar and since it was almost 2pm I was getting hangry.
After food, we continued on to Gap of Dunloe. It was gorgeous and worth it. The roads are small to go through but there are plenty spots to pull off out of oncoming traffic or to take a picture. After you get through the main gap, there are not many pull off spots to park. It’s probably best to turn around once you get to the main part but we ended up driving all the way through. We took a wrong turn at one point and had to back track some but we eventually found our way and going through the pass made it back to Molls Gap. Then it was a quick shot back to Killarney. We saw a car stuck in a ditch as we finished climbing out if the valley before getting back to Ring of Kerry but we made it back. Once we got back to the hotel I was so tired I fell asleep for about 15 minutes before Luke woke me up so we could go to our hotel bar for a bite of food and a drink. Luke ordered fish & chips and I ordered an Irish burger because I had to try Irish beef. They were both delicious. We had another drink before heading up to our room to relax.
We were just dozing off and then about 10pm the fire alarms went off. We put on coats, shoes, grabbed wallets and my purse and Luke’s camera and headed downstairs. We were downstairs by the front desk for a couple minutes when a worker came by and said it was a false alarm so the few of us that gathered in the lobby headed back to our rooms even though the alarm was still blaring. It took about 5 long minutes before they were able to get the alarm turned off.
