Ireland Trip Day 12: Giants Causeway, Dunluce, & Ballygally (Draft)
Day 12: Giants Causeway/Dunluce/Ballygally
We woke up and packed up our cars and headed towards giants causeway. It was pouring rain but we were also on a hunt for a Cafe before we got there. We tried stopping at dollys Cafe but it was closed so we continued on. There were several closed roads which pushed us away from the Coastal road but we got to bushmills. Unfortunately the bushmills disterillery was closed to visitors and tours. We continued on to dunluce castle. The castle was really interesting and had a lot of history. They started archeological efforts in 2008. The downside is it was really windy and it was hard to walk through some sections.
We then continued on to Giants Causeway. We parked at the hotel, paid 10 pounds, then walked along the top of the cliffs to the Shepherds Steps and decended the crazy stairs to head to the bottom. We continued on the red path towards the amphitheater but the trail has been closed since 1994 due to erosion. We them turned around and headed towards the actual area of Giants Causeway where we explored the rocks and the area. There were a few people but we timed it pretty well. We then headed back to the hotel for a bathroom break and then back to our cars.
The carick-a-rick rope bridge was closed and we read that the Cushendall Caves are currently difficult to get to because of construction so we decided to just head to Ballygally and our hotel since it was already 2pm. We got to our hotel about 330 and got checked in and freshened up. Michelle was still working with Verizon to get her phone to work which hasn’t been working most of the trip which was frustrating to say the least.
Luke and I then ventured from our room in the castle towner called Glencloy to the ghost room. It was really neat climbing the castle tower stairs to the little room at the top where Isabella Shaw was locked away at.
We then met Tony in the hotel bar for a couple drinks while we waited for Michelle. We then decided to go to the beach. The guys went for a swim and we dipped our toes in. We then came back and cleaned up then went to dinner and had a fancy dinner (about 2 hours). We then decided to go for a night walk on the beach but then it was 10 pm and we decided to turn in.
